Mexico bass fishing has been on my bucket list for more than 15 years. Take a wild guess as to what I will be doing come this March. I will be knocking off this bucket list item come this March. I will be heading to Mexico to fish what is arguably the best bass fishery in the world, Lake Baccarac.
You boys like Mexico?
Game on ladies and gentlemen. First off, I owe a big thank you to my family for giving me the opportunity to knock this one off my list. To be 100% honest, the thrill is all mine. They have concerns about my safety as this is not a trip to Cancun or the Riviera Maya. Take a look at the map below to get an idea of where Lake Baccarac is in Mexico. I can understand their concerns but the safety record of these trips speaks for themselves.
Lake Baccarac
Lake Baccarac is a big body of water. It is 25 miles long and 5 miles wide. The lake has a surface area of 30,000 acres. This is not your small kettle pond. From what I have read, it was stocked with Florida strain largemouth bass back in 1978. The biggest bass caught so far has been 19.10lb’s. The lake runs deep, up to 300 feet deep and has structure that makes it a bass fishing paradise. Rocks, humps, boulders, etc. Here is a great little write up of the Lake.
The Journey Begins
This article is the beginning of a series of articles that will document my preparation for my Mexico bass fishing trip to Lake Baccarac in the Spring. I am excited and a little overwhelmed, but I am going with some seasoned veterans who are giving me solid pointers. To be honest, what I need are some tips and recommendations from folks that have been there. So, please add your comments below.
