Late one night I was online searching for cheap tungsten weights for purchase. I quickly realized that this was not going to be an easy task. What was I looking for? I wanted worm weights, as that’s what I fish 75% of my time on the water. I also mostly fish with my family, which means plenty of lost hooks and weights. The search for cheap Tungsten weights was on. Let’s be clear, I am not a cheapskate when it comes to many things, but fishing weights is one of those things that I hate spending money on. Don’t ask me why I can’t explain it.
What started out as a simple Google search, quickly turned into this crazy penny-pinching exercise. It was comical, but in my mind, I was going to provide a service to my fellow TinBoats members and followers of the site. Did I go overboard? Probably. The end result is a Tungsten price list comparison that I will actually keep up to date and will change as pricing changes. Your input would be greatly appreciated.
Why Tungsten Weights?
The number one reason to switch over to tungsten is that lead is toxic and it’s better for the environment. Other than that, every other point I have seen states that Tungsten weights are smaller in size and denser. Tungsten produces more sound under water. Sure that sounds reasonable. It has better “feel” underwater, which in my mind is debatable. Lastly and true, it produces a smaller bait profile. The only real downfall is the price. Tungsten weights cost more when compared to other alternatives like lead or brass.
Tungsten Price Comparison
Now, before everyone gets upset or questions what I did here, let me explain. This Tungsten price comparison is a very narrowed price list. These are a point in time prices and not all sellers/manufactures were included. These prices are “everyday” prices and not sale prices.
Criteria
- These are “Tungsten Worm Weights”
- I picked “Black” as the color. I don’t know if different colors have different costs
- Price is per each. If you look at the picture you will see the cost per each weight. “Must by” means they come packaged together.
- N/A means they do not offer that size
- Prices might by a penny off because of rounding up or down. It is what it is.
This is by no means the be-all and end-all “bible” for a price comparison of cheap tungsten weights. If you want me to add a seller or manufacturer, please let me know in the comments below. If you find the everyday prices cheaper online, please let me know by leaving a comment below and I will keep updating this list. I hope you found this valuable, I did.
Final thoughts and help
Needless to say, I ended up going the cheap route and purchased a bunch of Tungsten from Omfishingsinkers.com. I spent $40 to get free shipping. The Tungsten is shipped from China, so it will take roughly 9-11 days. The Tungsten came packaged nice and wrapped in little bags. The weights look like they are of decent quality. Not bad at all.
