Is the new 6th Sense Vega Frog going to be the new goto hollow body frog? I think so. I hope the Vega frog performs as good as it looks. I’m not a fan of the Lunkerhunt frogs anymore as they just don’t last. A couple of failed hook sets and the hooks drive into the hollow body and they’re toast. They end up filling with water and don’t swim right after that. This isn’t being written to knock LunkerHunt, but after spending a ton of coin on Lunker frogs, combat frogs, and pocket frogs, it’s time to move on, and I have.
Currently, I have two hollow body frog setups. One has a Megabass Big Gabot on it, and the other one has a JDM frog (I can’t remember the name of the company to save my life) that swims legit and comes through anything without issue. The JDM frog is hard to find. I found them locally with an inch of dust on them and was able to pick them up for $4.75 each. This frog swims better and is more durable than most of the better-known brands you can buy anywhere.
6th Sense Vega Frog
Right out of the package I could tell that this frog is quality made. The color scheme is on point, and the 5/0 black nickel braid hooks are sharp AF. Engraved on the top of the frog is number 6 which is nice because now you won’t forget what brand of frog you’re fishing with. Also, the Vega Frog has a blow-hole by the tail to squeeze out any water that might get in. If you look closely between the hooks, you can see it.
6th Sense Vega Frog Vs. Megabass Big Gabot
Nothing scientific or earth-shattering below, just a quick visual comparison of the 6th Sense Vega Frog against my favorite topwater as of today, the Megabass Big Gabot. I blurbed about the Big Gabot awhile ago and if your interested, you can read about it here. Notice the thinner profile on the Vega? This is nice in my opinion. Will it make the frog come through the slop easier? I don’t know, in theory, it makes sense that it should.
Did you notice the legs? You could probably replace them on the Gabot if you, really, wanted to. Not me, I won’t customize them or replace anything. If it falls apart, it goes right in the trash.
Here is where things start being different. The Gabot has a bigger mouth and channel for water to have more fun in. What difference does that make? I bet it might make a difference on those super quiet glass-like mornings where even the slightest twitch will cause a ripple effect. Sounds goods in theory right? A quick note here, the Gabot is also tied off at the eye where the Vega is not. So far the Gabot has withstood the test of time and I’m not that great of a frog fisherman.
