Check out this awesome 1982 Duracraft SuperStar 16 build done by Tyler McGinnis. This boat was owned by his great grandfather, then his grandfather, and now him. It’s special because his grandfather lost his battle with throat cancer in 2018. The Ford Bronco was also his grandfather’s so I won’t ask Tyler to sell it to me even though I want it so badly. I first spotted this build on the Decked out Jon boats Facebook page. This is one of my favorite pages on Facebook. If you’re on Social media, check out the page and definitely follow it. It’s a no-drama page just like our awesome forum here on TinBoats.
The 1982 Duracraft SuperStar 16 build
Tyler’s 1982 Duracraft SuperStar 16’ has the original 50 Johnson. That 50 Johnson is a workhorse of a motor. Tyler extended the front deck, with all-aluminum framing and sealed 3/4″ plywood.
He went with all new electrical wiring with soldered connections and heat shrink run to the fuse panel under the console. Tyler added all-new marine carpet, seats, three Humminbirds birds, a 24v Maxxum, and three bank charger.
The boat wasn’t the only thing that need a little facelift. Tyler completely rebuilt the trailer, adding a swing-away tongue, reconfigured bunks for centering, wheels & tires, fenders, and an axle.
Tyler’s project started in Jan 2020 and finished the majority of it all around July 2020. As Tyler (and all of us know)the little projects will continue to go on forever, though, and that’s ok by him.
